Northwest Austin Addition

The idea for this addition was to expand the existing dining to accommodate a growing family around the dining table. The owners feel that family is "everything." There are now seven grandchildren that come to this home for the holidays and they all can be seated in this newly expanded dining room space. We designed a mono pitch, vaulted roof in order to gain height and to shed water to the perimeter of the lot. The higher ceiling also allowed for greater light inside. Aging in place was considered by raising the floor of the "sunken" living room, providing a ramp at the back patio door, designing a curbless shower with accessible hardware and grab bars, a new accessible height toilet with electrical outlet and widening existing doors.
